omg, it is bleeding hot in here. 9:30 at night, no lights on, A/C on ALL day and it's over 80F!!! I HATE Texas.
Ah, I caved and bought Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna. It was only $10. I'm cutting myself off now though, I've bought 9 bollywood movies in the past WEEK. Now, for someone without a job, that is a bad path to go down. So, I have a resolution, I'm not going to buy anything other than food and things to finish my sewing projects. No new fabric (just zippers, etc, to use the fabric I already have), no new movies, nadda. I'm cutting myself off. I need my money to last until I can find a bloody job.
My mom watched Chalte Chalte that I gave her. About time! I've given her tons of movies but she has only watched Kal Ho Naa Ho and Om Shanti Om. Only because she can't sit still for more than 10 minutes, and that's kind of rough when you have to read subtitles. After her surgery next week she says she is going to watch tons of Bollywood and it will be the only thing that keeps her sane :P So, she can catch up. I'm thinking, 3KG, KANK, DDLJ, Mohabbatein, and maybe some of the ones I bought/ones I haven't seen. Then she'll really see how the same people show up in all the movies. She keeps mentioning that and she's only seen 3. Just wait, I told her, just wait. She'l know A. Bachchan, Hrithik, Kajol, Rani, Preity, Seif, Aishwarya, the whole crew. She'll think that there are only 10 actors in all of bollywood, lol. The 6 degrees of seperation of actors/movies wouldn't work that well in BW.
Anyway, two movies I've just watched, unbeknownest to me, a somewhat similar twist...

Words cannot describe how ridiculous this movie was. God, and you thought SRK overacted in other movies!! While I was watching I was hoping that the other older SRK movies I bought weren't this ridiculously overacted, but then I realised that this really wasn't that old compared to some other good ones (DDLJ, Dil to Pagal Hai, Karan Arjun[which I've heard was good]) all of which had good acting. So, there is still hope for the others, lol.
I mean, I get why he did it, to show the characters apart, and I'm sure it was meant to be ridiculous, but it was a bit too much for me. Oh, and Kajol with the DDLJ music? Does anyone else notice all the music references to other movies they throw into these things? KANK had Bole Chudiyan playing in the background, in KHNH they sang a song from Devdas, and then this....I think I remember some others and I wanted to mention them, but they aren't coming to mind now. I don't mind, it is exciting to get references. Makes me realise how totally far gone I am!
Oh, I forgot to mention the worst thing about this movie, the stupid songs weren't translated! I hate that!
Kaho Naa...Pyaar Hai
I honestly didn't have the vaguest idea what this was about when I watched it and I was freaking when HR's character dies, I was like.....the movie is only half over, then BAM, duplicate (I'm not ruining anything, it says as much on the summary). Bollywood really enjoys that, don't they? Duplicates or reincarnations, etc. Oh well, more Hrithik is all right. He is so fit (I'm not meaning to sound British, but that is the only word to describe it, his arm muscles are HUGE).
Anyway, if you can get over the weirdness of wondering how you would react if your fiance died and then an exact duplicate showed up and wondering if you would feel guilty about liking this guy and hoping you don't call out the first guys name or something, or how weird it would be for the guy to always wonder whether you liked him or liked him because he looked like your old beau.......Oh....the rest of you weren't thinking that?
The girl was super obnoxious at the beginning, but improved. It was a good movie, I enjoyed it :)
I was going to watch Karan Arjun, but then I saw that Amrish Puri was in it (not a huge fan, he freaks me out), but then it has also gotten good reviews so I figured I would wait to watch it with my mother when I go down to help her out next week.
Oh wow, did I not review DDLJ? I'm sure everyone has seen it, but I'll say something anyway.
What's not to love? The whole world loves this movie, and I have to say, I'm no different. I thought it was fantastic. Sort of a normal bollywood plot line, but they really did an amazing job on it. Amrish Puri was SO annoying, what a jerk. Another douche father they try and redeem at the very end. Really, if all you had to go off of was bollywood films you would wonder what amazing transformation takes place after guys have kids that turn them from soft romantics, to the biggest jerks in the world.
Anyway, not much to say about this movie, I recommend it to EVERYONE and I'm really excited to show it to my mother. Loved it. Go watch it. It's another one that I think even non-BW fanatics would enjoy.
